Top ten tuesday #47 || End of the year book tag

Top ten tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana @That Artsy Reader Girl. She provides us with a prompt every week to write a bookish lists. I personally don’t participate every week, just when I like a certain prompt or when I can think of a fun twist on it.

This week we got “Freebie“

So I decided today I will be answering the questions of the “End of the Year Book Tag” created by Ariel @ArielBisset (on YouTube). Even though it’s probably waaaaay too late to do a tag/survey thingy that is meant to set goals for the end of the year… seeing as we are 6 days into December. But you know what. Let’s dream big!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

---

     

These are the books I am currently still in the middle of: The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager, We Had to Remove this Post by Hanna Bervoets, Out There by Kate Folk and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I am pretty sure I will finish the first three. House of Leaves on the other hand… eeeehhhh… If I would decide to pick that one back up now that will be the only book I read in december. So probably not.

Do you have a seasonal book to transition into the end of the year?

---

For this one I’ve got Near the Bone by Christina Henry. The perfect fit if you ask me! A spooky book set in a snowy mountain cabin. Doesn’t that just scream winter to you? I’ve also been meaning to read something by Christina Henry for literal YEARS. So it’s about time I actually pick up one of her books. I’ve heard this one gets dark, so that seems like a great place to start!

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

---

Not really? I feel like December is a pretty slow month for book publishing. I’m never eagerly anticipating new books coming out in December. When we get to this point in the year, I’m usually starting to look at those shiny new releases coming out next year. But that’s not fair to the December books! So I had a look at what’s coming out this month and found these two. I’m definitely at least vaguely interested in both of these… we have A Million to One by adiba jaigirdar and My Darkest Prayer by S.A. Cosby. To be fair, these are not actually going on my end of year reading list, since I have many books I’m more excited for. So let’s treat these as my honorable mentions.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

Besides the other ones mentioned in this post, I would also love to read A Man and His Cat Volume 3 and I Think Our Son is Gay Volume 2, which are both manga volumes I am currently lending from the library. I also hope to get to A Sliver of Darkness by C.J. Tudor, which is a short story collection. I’m really into those right now!

Is there a book you think could still shock you
& become your favorite book of the year?

---

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman could definitely still take this spot. Backman can do no wrong with his books in my eyes. I ALWAYS end up absolutely loving his books. He might actually be my favorite author! And so in December I’m planning to read probably his most popular book. I mean… this has to be a winner right?

Have you already started making reading plans for 2023?

---

I’m planning to not plan too much next year! I want to set less goals and just see where the year takes me. But I am still jotting down some new releases I’m excited about. Which I will sharing soon in an upcoming TTT post.
